Beowulf: A New Verse Translation - Seamus Heaney, Unknown

Plot spoilers!

Resentful Dude: You're just a boaster, Beowulf!
Beowulf: I'm a boaster but not just a boaster - I back my boasts up with deeds! And I'm gonna kill Grendel with my bare hands - it's the only fair way since Grendel doesn't use sword or shield.

And this very boast is the reason Beowulf wins because Grendel has magical protection and can't be harmed by any edged weapons.
