Shakespeare and the Goddess of Complete Being - Ted Hughes

An unexpected result of reading this is that I've altered my view of Roman Catholicism; whilst I have long been aware of how the early Church attempted to subvert Paganism by fixing major festivals to match Pagan ones (e.g. Christmas and Easter falling at the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox) this book makes me believe that Paganism subverted the RC Church with its "veneration" of Mary and the Saints = a Pantheon.
