In a Glass Darkly - Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu

Yep, The Sign of the Dragon Volant is certainly the best story so far in this collection, with only one to go. Fun and intriguing and I suspect poking gentle fun at the genre of swashbuckling romances that the Three Musketeers exemplifies, it is also unpredictable, veering and swerving from one apparent plot to another before culminating in a neat explanation of everything that has occurred to the hero and a few things that are only related by the characters.

 

Also, a certain Fierce and Friendly Magical Creature likes it a lot for some reason...
